————————————————————————————————————————————————————
There was a time when I honestly thought being tired was just part of being successful.
You work hard. You take care of your clients. You answer the emails, show up for your audience, keep building, and keep saying yes to the next thing.
And when the day is finally over, you tell yourself, “I’ll rest when things slow down.”
But what if they don’t?
I’ve learned that lesson in my own journey. There have been seasons when I was so focused on the work, the mission, and the people I wanted to serve that rest became something I would get to later.
The problem is, your body doesn’t always wait until your schedule has room for it.
Today, as a wellness speaker, coach, and Ambassador for PUUR, I look at rest very differently. Sleep isn’t something we should squeeze in after everything else is done.
It’s one of the things that helps us have the energy, clarity, and presence to actually do the things that matter most.
You don’t have to earn your rest. You need it.
I Know What It Feels Like to Keep Going
My journey has taken me through several very different worlds.
I began my professional career as a federal prosecutor and civil rights coordinator.
Then I made a decision that surprised many people: I left law to pursue my passion for singing and acting.
I performed on stage and television, had prominent roles, and even sang solo at Carnegie Hall.
From the outside, it probably looked like I was living several dreams at once.
But then came one of the biggest twists of my life.
I lost my performing voice.
For someone whose identity had become so connected to performing, losing my voice wasn’t simply a career problem.
It forced me to stop.
It forced me to rethink who I was.
And eventually, it opened a completely different chapter of my life—one that led me into health, wellness, fitness, speaking, coaching, and the brain-body connection.
I transformed my own health and ultimately lost 77 pounds without dieting.
But the biggest transformation wasn’t the number on the scale.
It was what I began to understand about the relationship between the mind, body, beliefs, behaviors, and the way we live.
That understanding changed the way I look at success.
Success Can Look Good While Your Body Is Struggling
One of the things I want successful leaders to understand is that exhaustion doesn’t always look like a crisis.
Sometimes it looks like:
- Checking your phone before your feet hit the floor.
- Working late because you can’t switch your brain off.
- Waking up at 2 or 3 a.m. thinking about your business.
- Feeling tired but strangely unable to relax.
- Drinking another coffee because you need to get through the afternoon.
- Being physically in bed but mentally still at work.
- Telling yourself you’ll catch up on sleep “this weekend.”
- Feeling successful on paper but depleted in your body.
I’ve seen this pattern repeatedly in high-achieving people.
And I’ve experienced versions of it myself.
We become so focused on achieving the next goal that we forget to ask:
“What is this pace costing me?”
The CEO Brain Doesn’t Always Know How to Switch Off
When you’re responsible for a business, people, clients, employees, revenue, or a mission, your brain can stay in problem-solving mode long after the workday ends.
There’s always something else to think about.
The next decision.
The next launch.
The next client.
The next email.
The next opportunity.
The next problem.
And eventually, your bedroom can become an extension of your office.
Your body is lying down.
But your mind is still working.
That is not true rest.
And the more often we repeat that pattern, the easier it can become to believe that exhaustion is normal.
It isn’t.

What My Wellness Journey Taught Me About Rest
My transformation taught me that the body is not something we can simply command to cooperate.
We have to listen to it.
For years, many of us have been taught to think about wellness in separate categories:
Eat better.
Exercise.
Lose weight.
Work harder.
Think positively.
Sleep more.
But I became increasingly interested in the deeper relationship between all of these things.
How does stress influence the body?
How do our beliefs influence our behaviors?
How does emotional strain affect the way we show up?
What happens when we’re constantly “on”?
And what happens when we finally create space for the nervous system and the body to experience something different?
Those questions became central to my work.
My Journey From Wellness Speaker to PUUR Ambassador
Today, my work continues to evolve.
I’ve moved from simply talking about wellness to exploring the deeper connections between wellness, emotional well-being, human connection, and sustainable success.
That’s one reason becoming an Ambassador for PUUR feels so aligned with where my journey has taken me.
PUUR focuses on what it calls somatic co-regulation through short, daily connection practices, including 10-minute calls. Its broader mission is to enable “happy healthy for all,” with an emphasis on connection, emotional stability, self-awareness, and well-being.
What speaks to me about this is the reminder that human beings are relational.
We don’t have to carry everything alone.
Sometimes we don’t need another productivity hack.
Sometimes we need connection.
Sometimes we need to slow down enough to notice what we’re actually feeling.
Sometimes we need to be heard.
And sometimes we need to create a daily practice that helps us reconnect with ourselves and others.
For someone who has spent years speaking about wellness and transformation, this feels like a natural evolution of my own message.
Because sustainable success isn’t just about accomplishing more.
It’s about becoming well enough to enjoy what you’ve accomplished.
Sleep Is Not a Productivity Problem
I want to make an important distinction here.
If you’re struggling with sleep, the answer isn’t always another productivity strategy.
Sometimes the question isn’t:
“How can I get more done?”
It’s:
“Why can’t my body let go?”
There can be many reasons someone struggles with sleep, and persistent sleep problems deserve appropriate professional attention.
But for many high-achieving people, the first step is simply recognizing the relationship between their lifestyle and their ability to rest.
If you’re constantly operating in urgency during the day, it can be difficult to expect your mind and body to immediately become peaceful simply because you turned off the lights.
Your body needs signals of safety.
Your mind needs space.
Your day needs a transition.
And your sleep needs to become something you protect—not something you squeeze into whatever time remains.
The Hidden Cost of Being “Always On”
Let’s talk about what happens when poor rest becomes a lifestyle.
You may notice that you’re:
Less patient.
Less focused.
More reactive.
Less creative.
More emotionally drained.
Less present with the people you love.
And eventually, even the business you’ve worked so hard to build can begin to feel like something you’re surviving rather than enjoying.
That’s the irony.
We often sacrifice our well-being to create success.
Then we become too depleted to fully experience the success we created.
What if we stopped treating that as normal?
What If Rest Became Part of Your Leadership Strategy?
Imagine approaching sleep the same way you approach your business.
You wouldn’t expect your computer to run indefinitely without charging.
You wouldn’t expect your team to perform at its best without recovery.
You wouldn’t expect your business to grow without resources.
So why do we expect our bodies to operate endlessly without restoration?
Rest isn’t laziness.
Rest isn’t weakness.
Rest isn’t something you have to apologize for.
Rest is restoration.
And restoration allows you to return to your work with more clarity, presence, creativity, and capacity.
My 5 Questions for the Exhausted Leader
If you’re successful but exhausted, I want you to pause and ask yourself:
1. When was the last time I felt genuinely rested?
Not “I slept for six hours.”
Not “I had coffee and felt better.”
Actually rested.
2. Do I know how to transition out of work mode?
If your workday ends but your brain continues working until midnight, your body may never receive a clear signal that the day is over.
3. What am I carrying into bed?
A business problem?
A difficult conversation?
Tomorrow’s to-do list?
Financial worries?
An unresolved decision?
Sometimes identifying what’s keeping your mind active is the first step toward changing the pattern.
4. What am I sacrificing for success?
Your sleep?
Your relationships?
Your health?
Your joy?
Your presence?
Your answer may reveal that your current version of success needs to be redesigned.
5. What would success feel like if I were well?
This may be the most important question.
Because success shouldn’t only look good from the outside.
It should feel sustainable from the inside.
You Don’t Need to Earn Your Rest
This is something I wish more high achievers understood.
You don’t have to finish your entire to-do list before you’re allowed to rest.
There will always be another email.
Another project.
Another opportunity.
Another problem.
Another goal.
But your body only has one you.
Your health is not an inconvenience to your ambition.
It is the foundation of your ability to pursue it.
My own transformation taught me that lesson in a very personal way.
I don’t want to help people simply achieve more.
I want to help them create lives they are actually well enough to live.
I would experience various levels of “success” until I would give up and return to the old habits that comforted me but did not serve me

My Deep Sleep Reset System
This is also why I created my Deep Sleep Reset System.
I don’t believe you should have to choose between ambition and well-being.
The goal is not simply to “sleep more.”
It’s to create the conditions that support deeper, more restorative rest, greater mental clarity, better stress regulation, natural energy, and a stronger mind-body connection.
The Deep Sleep Reset System is designed to help you step out of the cycle of being constantly “on” and begin creating a healthier relationship with rest and recovery.
Because when you sleep better, you don’t just wake up less tired.
You create more space for:
Clarity.
Focus.
Energy.
Emotional balance.
Presence.
Better decisions.
A healthier relationship with yourself.
And ultimately, a more sustainable version of success.
Your Success Shouldn’t Cost You Your Health
If you’re a CEO, entrepreneur, coach, leader, or high-achieving professional, I want you to remember this:
You don’t have to burn yourself out to prove that you’re committed.
You don’t have to sacrifice your health to demonstrate ambition.
You don’t have to stay exhausted to prove you’re successful.
And you don’t have to wait until your body forces you to stop before you start listening.
I know what transformation feels like.
I’ve lived through career reinvention.
I’ve experienced the loss of something I thought defined me.
I’ve transformed my health.
I’ve built a career around wellness and human potential.
And now, as an Ambassador for PUUR, I’m continuing to explore how connection and emotional well-being can support a healthier way of living.
My message today is simple:
Success should expand your life, not consume it.
And sleep is part of that equation.
What If Your Next Level Doesn’t Require More Hustle?
Maybe your next level isn’t another 5 a.m. wake-up.
Maybe it isn’t another productivity system.
Maybe it isn’t another cup of coffee.
Maybe it isn’t working until midnight.
Maybe your next level is learning how to recover.
Learning how to slow down.
Learning how to reconnect.
Learning how to listen to your body.
Learning how to protect your sleep.
Learning that rest isn’t taking you away from your mission.
Rest may be what gives you the capacity to fulfill it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why do successful people struggle with sleep?
High-achieving people often carry significant mental responsibility. Business decisions, deadlines, financial concerns, leadership responsibilities, and constant connectivity can make it difficult to mentally transition from work to rest.
Why am I tired but unable to sleep?
Feeling tired but unable to switch off can happen for many reasons, including stress, habits, environment, and other physical or psychological factors. If sleep difficulties are persistent or significantly affecting your daily life, it’s worth discussing them with a qualified healthcare professional.
Can stress affect my sleep?
Stress can make it harder to relax and can contribute to difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep. Creating a consistent wind-down routine and addressing sources of stress may support healthier sleep habits.
Is sleep really important for leadership?
Yes. Rest supports the capacity you bring to leadership. When you’re chronically depleted, it can become harder to maintain focus, regulate emotions, make decisions, communicate effectively, and be fully present.
What does PUUR have to do with wellness?
As an Ambassador for PUUR, I appreciate its focus on human connection and somatic co-regulation. PUUR offers 10-minute connection calls and describes its broader mission as enabling “happy healthy for all.”
What is the Deep Sleep Reset System?
The Deep Sleep Reset System is my program designed to help people create a healthier foundation for deeper, more restorative sleep while supporting mental clarity, stress regulation, natural energy, and mind-body connection.
Is the Deep Sleep Reset System only for CEOs?
No. While this article speaks directly to leaders and high achievers, the program can be relevant to anyone who feels caught in the cycle of being tired, stressed, overstimulated, or unable to fully switch off.
Do I have to give up my ambition to sleep better?
Absolutely not.
That’s the opposite of what I believe.
The goal isn’t less ambition. It’s more sustainable ambition.
You can be driven and well.
You can be successful and rested.
You can build something meaningful without destroying yourself in the process.
Where can I learn more?
If you’re ready to stop treating sleep as an afterthought and start making restoration part of your wellness strategy, explore my Deep Sleep Reset System program space and take the first step toward creating a more restorative relationship with sleep.
