As a former state and federal prosecutor, I learned to ask questions, examine what was happening beneath the first explanation, and pay attention to the evidence.<\/p>\n<p>That perspective followed me onto the concert stage at Carnegie Hall and into my work today as a keynote speaker, business and storytelling coach, and Brain-Body-Business Alignment Strategist.<\/p>\n<p>It also influences how I think about leadership.<\/p>\n<p>When you walk into a business, you begin forming an impression before anyone explains its mission. Respectful conversations can build trust.<\/p>\n<p>The opposite is also true. Constant interruptions may communicate urgency, even when you say you value balance. Unclear expectations can create frustration, even when collaboration is one of your stated priorities.<\/p>\n<p>These details matter because people experience your values through your actions.<\/p>\n<p>If connection matters to you, create opportunities for meaningful conversations. If wellness is a priority, establish boundaries that respect people&#8217;s time and energy. If integrity is part of your mission, make sure your decisions support the promises you make.<\/p>\n<p>You don&#8217;t need a perfect workplace to lead effectively. You need an environment that reflects your intentions and gives people a reasonable opportunity to do their best work.<\/p>\n<p>I encourage leaders to observe their businesses with curiosity rather than judgment. Pay attention to what employees, clients, and visitors actually experience. A person who ignores personal exhaustion may unintentionally expect everyone else to operate in the same way.<\/p>\n<p>I have learned that meaningful change requires more than recognizing a problem. You must be willing to examine your own part in it.<\/p>\n<p>Self-awareness gives you an opportunity to recognize your patterns before they begin directing your decisions.
