I’ll be honest: when I first started my wellness journey, I had no idea how technology could actually help me. I thought wellness apps and wearable devices were just for fitness fanatics, but over time, I’ve realized they can become my personal accountability partners, my data-driven cheerleaders, and even my wellness coaches,  all rolled into one.

As a wellness coach, I’ve always believed in practicing what I teach. I guide others in building sustainable routines, managing stress, and prioritizing rest — but it wasn’t until I started wearing sleep tech that I truly understood how powerful data can be in transforming health.

At first, I was simply curious. I thought I was sleeping “well enough.” I went to bed at a decent hour, woke up early, and functioned throughout the day. But once I began tracking my sleep, I realized that what felt “fine” wasn’t actually optimal. The data showed frequent wake-ups during the night, lower-than-expected deep sleep, and elevated heart rate patterns that reflected hidden stress.

That information was a turning point.

Instead of guessing, I could now adjust with intention. I shifted my evening routine — dimming lights earlier, reducing screen time, adding magnesium, and incorporating breathwork before bed. I became more mindful of late-night conversations, heavy meals, and even the intensity of my workouts.

Within weeks, my deep sleep improved. My resting heart rate lowered. I woke up feeling clearer, calmer, and more energized. My patience increased. My cravings decreased. My workouts felt stronger. And most importantly, I felt aligned.

Sleep tech didn’t replace intuition — it enhanced it. It gave me objective insight to support what my body was already whispering. As a coach, this experience deepened my empathy and strengthened my approach. Now when I talk about recovery, stress management, and sustainable energy, I speak from lived experience backed by real data.

Wearing sleep tech didn’t just improve my sleep. It elevated my awareness. And awareness is where real transformation begins.

How I Use Wearables to Track My Progress

One of the first tools I embraced was a wearable fitness tracker. At first, I was just curious about my daily step count and how much I actually moved throughout the day. But it didn’t stop there. These devices now track my heart rate variability, sleep quality, and even my stress levels.

Knowing how my body responds to my day — whether it’s a high-stress workday or a relaxed weekend — has been eye-opening. It helps me adjust: maybe I need a short meditation session, a walk, or a little extra sleep. Seeing trends over time has been empowering because it’s not just about hitting arbitrary numbers; it’s about understanding my unique body.

Beyond wearables, I rely on apps for nutrition, mindfulness, and habit tracking. Logging meals, water intake, or meditation sessions helps me notice patterns I wouldn’t otherwise see. For example, I realized I perform better at work when I hydrate consistently and take a mid-day mental break. Simple? Yes. But effective? Absolutely.

Some apps even integrate with my wearable, giving me a more complete picture of my wellness journey. Seeing all my data in one place makes it easier to set realistic goals and celebrate small wins — which, let’s be honest, is key to staying motivated.

 

The Surprising Benefits of Using Tech for Wellness

I didn’t expect that these devices and apps would make me more mindful. But they do. By tracking my biometrics and habits, I’m more in tune with my body. I notice when I’m stressed, dehydrated, or sleep-deprived. And because the data is objective, I can make informed decisions without guilt or guesswork.

Another surprising perk? Community. Many apps and devices offer social features, challenges, and support groups. Being part of a community that’s also on a wellness journey keeps me inspired and accountable.
